Agglomeration and Fragmentation Phenomena of Bed Materials and Fuel Particles During Gasification of Coal-Biomass Pellets

چکیده
The paper reports on a current research on fluidised bed gasification of biomass and coals. The focus is on the bed material agglomeration and fragmentation phenomena that are well known to affect the reliability and the efficiency of fluidized bed combustion processes. Preliminary results of dedicated tests at high temperature are reported and discussed in the paper. On the whole, agglomeration phenomena appear to be less relevant under gasification conditions than during combustion. Extensive fragmentation has been experienced for a bed of fresh or calcined dolomite, whereas other materials having catalytic properties (sintered dolomite, γ-alumina) are more suitable under this aspect. Attrition tests also confirm the lower mechanical resistance of the calcined dolomite.

Fluidized-Bed Gasification of Plastic Waste, Wood, and Their Blends with Coal
The effect of fuel composition on gasification process performance was investigated by performing mass and energy balances on a pre-pilot scale bubbling fluidized bed reactor fed with mixtures of plastic waste, wood, and coal. The fuels containing plastic waste produced less H2, CO, and CO2 and more light hydrocarbons than the fuels including biomass. The lower heating value (LHV) progressively...
متن کاملThe Effect of Air Fuel Ratio and Temperature on Syngas Composition and Calorific Value Produced from Downdraft Gasifier of Rubber Wood-Coal Mixture
Rubber wood (Ficus elastica) is one the biomass waste that can be used as raw material for a gasification process and has a calorific value of 4,069 cal/gram. Gasification is a process to convert a solid fuel to syngas (CO, CH4, and H2) through a combustion process using limited air between 20% to 40% of air stoichiometry. Depending on the direction of airflow, the gasifiers are classified as u...

The Chariton Valley Biomass Power Project, sponsored by the U. S. Department of Energy Biomass Power Program, has the goal of converting switchgrass grown on marginal farmland in southern Iowa into electric power. Two energy conversion options are under evaluation: co-firing switchgrass with coal in an existing utility boiler and gasification of switchgrass for use in a carbonate fuel cell. Thi...
متن کاملOn a Numerical Model for Gasification of Biomass Materials: An Alternative Method to Combustion
In this paper, a thermochemical equilibrium model is used to predict the performance of a downdraft biomass gasifier. Numerical results are shown to be in good agreement with those of the experiments. Different biomass materials are tested using the model, and forest residual is shown to be the most energetic one. For this material, the gasification temperature, syngas composition and calorific...
متن کاملNumerical modeling of biomass combustion in a stoker boiler
Biomass fuel is considered a promising substitute for traditional fossil fuels. Amid a great variety of methods for converting the energy in biomass fuel into usable energy, direct combustion is still the dominant technology employed by industry. Because biomass fuel possess a much wider range of physical and chemical properties than fossil fuel, its combustion behavior is similarly diverse (an...
